Announcement from BeLoved Asheville:
We have been working with some amazing women who have lost their jobs and are still working with us in help their neighbors during this crisis. We have been seeing mothers show up as essential workers and community leaders during this time. We want to honor them.
Imagine your family suffering right now but also being so selfless as to want to be there for your neighbors as a community leader. Imagine these mothers being the hope for their family and community. These women have helped us to get thousands of meals to their neighbors during this crisis. We are in awe of them and want to celebrate them!
We have the opportunity to share a special care package with these mothers who are leaders. Moms will be presented with a basket of self-care items and some household necessities for her to care for her family?
We will be purchasing items for the care packages from Tienda La Catrachita, This is the ten year anniversary of the store that was started by a wonderful mother. She passed the business on to her daughter. Her young teen, he is working alongside his mom. What a wonderful family! Through their store, they add beautiful cultural flavor to the City by being committed to stocking items from many places Jamaica, Salvador, Honduras, and more!
When the pandemic started they were the first tienda to support the work sharing produce with us to share with community elders. When we shared masks, sanitizers, and gloves with them they never let us leave empty-handed but offer us drinks or food to help us keep going. We shared information about Covid-19 and they in turn educated their customers about the virus and distributed life-saving information in every bag! We want to celebrate this culture of sharing and will support this mom-led community business by purchasing items for the care packages from Tienda La Catrachita.
“What we have seen is mothers rising to the challenges of this pandemic with love and deep compassion. We want to take this time to celebrate all the ways
that mothers lift our community and families! We want them to know we see them and honor them as pillars of strength and hope!” Ponkho Bermejo, BeLoved Asheville Co-Director
