Bernard Baumohl to keynote Oct. 24 Asheville Metro Economy Outlook

Press release from the Economic Development Coalition for Asheville-Buncombe County:

Leading economic forecaster Bernard Baumohl will keynote the 20th Annual Asheville Metro Economy Outlook, set to take place Thursday, Oct. 24, at The Venue in downtown Asheville.

Chief global economist for Economic Outlook Group, Baumohl is well known for being ahead of the curve in assessing the direction of the U.S. and world economy and was named the most accurate forecaster for 2018 by the Wall Street Journal. His best-selling book The Secrets of Economic Indicators: Hidden Clues to Future Economic Trends and Investment Opportunities (Pearson Education) is in its 3rd edition and has been translated into several languages.

Produced by the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Coalition for Asheville-Buncombe County, the 20th Metro Economy Outlook presents a timely assessment amidst the longest U.S. economic expansion on record. Baumohl is well-versed in key concerns affecting the business landscape and economic outlook such as:

  • Is a recession near — or will the economy surprise with faster growth?
  • What changes can we expect from trade policies, supply chains, the housing market and infrastructure?
  • How strong will consumer and business spending be?
  • Who will be the leaders and laggards in the world economy?
  • Which economic and geopolitical risks pose the greatest danger to business?
  • What actions can companies take to protect against such shocks?

“Rarely have business leaders and consumers confronted so much uncertainty about the future,” Baumohl said. “Simply put, we live in a crisis-prone global economy. Yet, the sobering fact is corporate managers and investors still need to make decisions — and be able to justify them! So where is the economy headed and why?”

Heidi Reiber, Director of Riverbird Research – a division of the Asheville Chamber, said: “The economy is constantly shifting and impacts are complex and hard to predict. We could not ask for a better time to learn from Mr. Baumohl’s expertise and considerable understanding of economic changes that affect business and community.”

The luncheon is open to the public and will be held at The Venue in downtown Asheville starting at 11:15 a.m. with networking, followed by the program from noon-1 p.m. Cost to attend is $45 for Asheville Chamber members, $55 for the general public. Attendees will need to register in advance on the Chamber’s website: www.ashevillechamber.org/news-events.

The Metro Economy Outlook is produced annually by the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Coalition for Asheville-Buncombe County and is presented by Parsec Financial Wealth Management, DHG and Bank of America. Sponsors include Johnson Price Sprinkle PA; McGuire, Wood & Bissette, PA; ERC Broadband; HomeTrust Bank; Samsel Architects PA; Duke Energy; Carolina Alliance Bank and Kudzu Brands and is supported by Western Carolina University.
