Biologists to stock lake sturgeon in French Broad River

From U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service:

WHO: Biologists with the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will stock 7,000 lake sturgeon (Acipenser fulvescens) into the French Broad River. Media are invited to attend for interviews and photo opportunities.

WHEN: Approximately 3 p.m., Oct. 21, 2015

WHAT: As part of an ongoing, multi-state effort to restore lake sturgeon to its native range, biologists are stocking the marked fish into the French Broad River about 3 miles upstream of Hot Springs, marking the first time they’ve been stocked in North Carolina. The fish, which can grow to 200 pounds and 8-feet long, were raised and marked at the Edenton National Fish Hatchery in Edenton, N.C., and are approximately 7 ½-inches long.

WHERE: River access at the end of Stackhouse Road, off U.S. 25, Marshall, N.C.
