Blue Ridge Parkway announces road advisory

From National Park Service

Press release

(NC/VA) – Based on recent and forecasted weather conditions and in the interest of visitor safety, the Blue Ridge Parkway is issuing a road advisory for the entire 469-mile route through Monday, October 5, 2015. Drivers are encouraged to use extreme caution and be aware of the potential for falling rocks and downed trees.

The Parkway requires driving with extra care due to its narrow road shoulders, steep grades, and numerous curves. Drivers must adhere to posted speed limits and be prepared to stop or turn around.

Visitors are encouraged to check the Parkway’s online Real Time Road Map, at http://www.nps.gov/maps/blri/road-closures/, for current conditions and closures affecting park roads. www.nps.gov

The Blue Ridge Parkway, in linking the Shenandoah and Great Smoky Mountains National Parks, is dedicated to enhancing the outstanding scenic and recreational qualities of the corridor that it traverses; conserving unimpaired its significant natural and cultural resources, and promoting in perpetuity the public enjoyment and appreciation of the central and southern Appalachian Mountains.
