At its June 21 regular meeting, the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners approved an Internal Audit Plan that included an Audit Committee Charter, Audit Committee Bylaws, and an Internal Audit Charter. The plan was presented by Internal Auditor Dan Keister. Commissioners Al Whitesides and Robert Pressley serve on the Internal Audit Committee.
“From my position on the Internal Audit Committee, I want to commend Dan and his staff for getting us to this point and getting us here a lot quicker than I thought we would,” said Whitesides. “We’re more transparent than we have been, and that’s critical… we have everything with the infrastructure now to do it and do it right.”
According to the charter, internal auditing is an independent, objective assurance and consulting activity designed to add value and improve Buncombe County operations. It helps the Buncombe County Board of County Commissioners and County, through the Audit Committee, accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes. The Internal Audit Department enhances and protects the County’s value by providing risk-based and objective assurance, advice, and insight.
On Jan. 4, 2022, Buncombe County announcedthe hiring of Keister as Internal Auditor.
