Here’s the press release from the Bothwell campaign:
The Bothwell for Congress campaign submitted a first quarter finance report totalling more than 260 pages. It’s probably a safe bet that the campaign has more individual donors than all of the other candidates in both parties combined.
Bothwell noted, “As of this date we’ve raised more than $75,000, all of it from individuals —real people, not corporations or corporate PACs. And only two of our donors have contributed the maximum legal amount of $2,500, our average donation is about $55. This is a real people-powered campaign.”
Bothwell acknowledges that his opponent, Hayden Rogers, has raised four times as much money, but says, “Rogers will need it. He’s unknown in most of the district, so he’ll depend heavily on TV advertising to get his name out. We’ve attended more than 160 events in the District over the past year. We’ve held Town Hall meetings in most of the 17 counties, and we have organizations in all of them. This contest will be a real test of grassroots organizing versus the big money power brokers in Raleigh and Washington, DC.”
