Breast Surgeon Joins New Horizons Women’s Cancer Care

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – April 11, 2017 – New Horizons Women’s Cancer Care is proud to welcome Board Certified Surgeon Marilee McGinness, M.D. to its Asheville women’s care center.

Dr. McGinness has been specializing in breast surgery for the past 10 years. She earned her medical degree from Oral Roberts University School of Medicine and went on to complete her internship and residency training in general surgery at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City. From there she joined a general surgery practice in Lawrence, Kansas. During two of those years, she was Chief of Surgery at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Prior to joining New Horizon’s Women’s Cancer Care, Dr. McGinness was an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Kansas Medical Center, teaching residents and students while providing high-quality patient care.

“We are pleased to welcome Dr. McGinness to our treatment team,” says Nathan Williams, M.D., Medical Director of New Horizons Women’s Cancer Care. “Her expertise in breast surgery will help us continue to accomplish our goal of providing high-quality healthcare for women in our community.”

In addition to her many accomplishments, Dr. McGinness also has several professional associations, including the American Board of Surgery, the American College of Surgeons, and the American Society of Breast Surgeons. In her free time, she enjoys being active, sewing, riding her bike and playing concert piano (she has a degree in Piano from Oral Robert’s University).

New Horizons Women’s Cancer Care’s mission is not only to diagnose and treat breast and gynecologic cancers, but also to create a caring environment through words, actions and services.
