Buddhist communities celebrate Vesak, Buddhism’s holiest day

From a press release:

Three Buddhist communities will come together this Saturday, May 21, from 3-4:30pm to celebrate Vesak, the holiest day in the Buddhist calendar. Vesak commemorates the birth, awakening, and passing away of the Buddha and is celebrated by Buddhist communities throughout the world.

Here in Asheville, Urban Dharma (Tibetan tradition), Great Tree Zen Temple (Japanese Soto Zen tradition), and Mountain Mindfulness Sangha (Vietnamese tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh) will celebrate Vesak by bathing the baby Buddha, offering lamps and flowers, and telling the Buddha’s life-story. Participants in this family friendly event are encouraged to bring food donations for MANNA.
