Press release from Buncombe County Sherriff’s Office:
A detention officer at the Buncombe County Detention Facility has tested positive for COVID-19.
A Buncombe County Health and Human Services (BCHHS) Contact Tracer notified the officer of their exposure to an individual that tested positive for COVID-19. The officer was immediately tested for COVID-19 and went into self-quarantine at home while waiting on their test results.
Since testing positive, the officer has been self-isolating at home, per public health guidance. The results of the contact tracing investigation show that the officer was not in close contact with any staff or inmates at the Buncombe County Detention Facility during the time they would have been contagious. As of today, no other detention officers, detention facility staff or detainees are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19.
The Sheriff’s Office encourages the public to follow the public health guidance to slow the spread of COVID-19 by staying six feet away from others outside your household, wearing face coverings, and washing hands often. For information on COVID-19 testing in Buncombe County, click here.
