Buncombe County educators to hold rally for increased funding

Press release from the Buncombe County Association of Educators:
The Buncombe County Association of Educators is organizing a “Save our Schools” rally tomorrow at Pack Square Park, urging County Commissioners to fully fund the school board’s budget request of $13.5 million. This funding is critical to ensure that every child in Buncombe County has access to the necessary resources for their education.
The current proposed budget for the 2024-2025 fiscal year allocates only $3.4 million to Buncombe County Schools. With the expiration of ESSER funds at the end of this school year, the district faces significant budget shortfalls that could result in nearly 150 positions cuts across various student-facing roles.
WHAT: Save our Schools Rally
WHO: The Buncombe County Association of Educators, Rep. Lindsay Prather, community members, and more
WHEN: Thursday, June 6, 2024, at 5:00 p.m.
WHERE: Pack Square Park, 80 Court Plaza Asheville, NC 28801
Join us in advocating for the future of our public schools and ensuring that every student in Buncombe County can succeed.
