Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office updates policy on victims of human trafficking

Buncombe County Sheriff Quentin Miller signs and releases policy to support victims of human trafficking and other crimes. This policy represents our commitment to participating in the law enforcement certification process that is part of federal visa programs available to immigrant victims of crimes. This new policy was drafted following an internal and external review and evaluation that included staff and community stakeholders including OurVoice and Pisgah Legal Services.

“This policy is meant to encourage immigrant victims to report crimes and protect them from becoming victims of criminal activity. The collaboration between our office and community partners reflects our dedication to finding better ways to serve victims of crimes and their families. This policy demonstrates the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office’s commitment to creating a safer and better community of WE.” – Sheriff Quentin Miller.

This initiative improves transparency and commitment to upholding justice for undocumented survivors of serious crimes, including sexual violence and human trafficking. El Alguacil del Condado de Buncombe, Quentin Miller a firmado una nueva política para apoyar a victimas de crimenes.  La nueva política representa nuestro compromiso a participar en el proceso de certificación que es requerido como parte de varios programas federales de visas disponibles para víctimas de delitos que son inmigrantes. Esta nueva política se redactó tras revisión interna y evaluación que incluyó a nuestro personal y a organizaciones de la comunidad, incluyendo Our VOICE y Pisgah Legal Services.

“El propósito de esta política es alentar a las víctimas inmigrantes a denunciar delitos y protegerlas de convertirse en víctimas de actividades criminales. La colaboración entre nuestra oficina y las organizaciones de la comunidad refleja nuestra dedicación a encontrar mejores formas de servir a las víctimas de delitos y sus familias.
