From press release:
Creative Collective Asheville (CCA) will host an open forum, “Because You’re Worth It,” on May 14, from 7 to 9 pm, for professionals and freelancers in all creative fields. “Because You’re Worth It” will be a facilitated educational event, exploring ways creative professionals can assess their value and set fair rates for their work.
“Creatives often undervalue the worth of their skills,” says Kiere Shaffer, one of the group’s organizers. “We’re not suggesting specifically what people should charge for their services. That’s a decision for each creative individual to make personally. In this forum we’ll be opening dialog and suggesting ways creatives can begin assessing the true worth of their skills.”
The forum will explore some of the reasons creative professionals are asked to work free or far below their worth, and how to learn to say no to such requests. “
CCA is an emerging group with the goal of making Asheville a place where creative professionals and freelancers don’t just reside, but thrive. “Creative Collective Asheville is a community that promotes, supports, and connects with the needs of creative professionals and freelancers,” Kiere says. “We believe our work is unique, important, and valuable work that requires skill and expertise. We help creatives get paid a fair market value and offer world-class service to their clients. We also educate clients and the local business community about the value of quality creative work.”
“Because You’re Worth It” is free and open to the public. The one requirement is to join the Meetup group, and RSVP for the event at http://www.meetup.com/Creative-Collective-Asheville/events/177305772/.
The meeting takes place on May 14th from 7 to 9 pm, at 36 Montford Avenue in the Lenoir Rhyne University Board Room. Refreshments will be provided. Contact: Kiere at kiere@kiereshaffer.com for more information.
