Celebrated football coach Herman Boone will speak at Buncombe County Schools Foundation’s anniversary luncheon

Press release from Buncombe County Schools Foundation:

Asheville, NC ,  — Celebrated football coach Herman Boone, subject of the movie,  “Remember the Titans”, will be the keynote speaker at Buncombe County School Foundation’s 30th Anniversary Luncheon on September 16th.  In 1971, racial tensions ran high at T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia, as three schools merged to form a newly integrated one. Out of this experience the story of Remember the Titans emerged; and an undefeated football team was born. They won the state championship that year. While there have been other Virginia state championship games since then, that 1971 season, coached by Herman Boone, will always be special.

Registration is now open for the luncheon which will be held at the Asheville Renaissance Hotel on Tuesday, September 16th, 2014.   The luncheon will celebrate the teachers, students, volunteers and donors who have helped and benefited from the Foundation’s 30 years of support of Buncombe County Schools. The event will include opening addresses from representatives of Wells Fargo and Southeastern Sports Medicine, presenting sponsors of the event.

According to Lisa Adkins, Executive Director of the BCS Foundation, “We are thrilled to have Coach Boone as the keynote speaker. The content of his character was thoroughly tested by the challenges he faced personally and professionally,” she says. “We feel his participation will complement the Buncombe County Schools Foundation’s initiatives, which focus on supporting our teachers and students in the classroom as well as focusing on the importance of community involvement. Hearing Coach Boone talk about character, community, and teamwork will be a wonderful opportunity for the entire Buncombe County Schools community.”

The cost of the luncheon with Coach Boone is $35.00 and sponsorships are still available. To register or learn more about the 30th Anniversary of the Foundation, explore our website, www.bcsf.net or like our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/BuncombeCountySchoolsFoundation.

In addition, we host several fundraisers during the course of the year to raise money for programs that might not be funded otherwise.
