CGVAMC observes Mental Health Awareness Week with virtual speaker

Announcement from Charles George VA Medical Center:

The Western North Carolina VA Health Care System – which includes Charles George VA Medical Center and three Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC) in Rutherford County, Hickory and Franklin – continues to be vigilant, deliberate and effective in its efforts to protect Veterans and staff during the COVID-19 outbreak.

To that end, the Health Care System will recognize the Mental Health Awareness Month observance by hosting Kevin Rumley as an honored speaker through a Skype meeting this Thursday May 14th from 1 to 2 p.m.

Veterans and community members can call in at (844) 825-8490 conference code: 5811600230

“This May as we recognize Mental Health Awareness Month, let us all remember the importance of mental health,” Christine Cooper, Local Recovery Coordinator, said in an email. “Mental health is a vital part of overall health. We’re also aware that mental health challenges are prevalent, treatment is effective, and people recover.

“This year let us encourage proper screenings and mental health treatment and speak up against stigma.”
