Birds of a feather are sure to flock together during Chimney Rock at Chimney Rock State Park’s 10th Annual Flock to the Rock.
Western North Carolina’s premier birding event kicks off with a pre-registered Early Morning Bird Walk starting at 7:45 a.m. After all, the early bird gets the worm or in this case some amazing views of birds making their way through our region during migration. Only 15 spaces are available for this hike, so interested participants need to reserve their spot at chimneyrockpark.com.
Following the bird walk, visitors can enjoy Flock to the Rock’s public events which include a variety of educational birding activities, live bird programs, children’s activities and a hawk count at the top of Chimney Rock.
Special to the event are Wings to Soar Birds in Flight shows in the Classroom on the Meadows. Their free-flying raptor program gives audiences a unique opportunity to view and interact with birds of prey up close.
“Chimney Rock is one of the most spectacular locations in Western North Carolina to spot a wide range of birds throughout the year, from countless warblers and vireos to tanagers and birds of prey. Flock to the Rock is held during the peak of fall migration and draws enthusiastic birders of all levels to the Park,” said Emily Walker, Chimney Rock Management, LLC Naturalist and Education Manager.
Flock to the Rock is included with paid Park admission which is $15 for adults, $7 for youth (ages 5-15) and free for kids 4 years and under.
