City of Asheville and Buncombe County to hold ‘Waste Off’

Press release from city of Asheville:

In celebration of the second annual “Food Waste Reduction Month”, The City of Asheville and Buncombe County are throwing all our trash on stage at the first ever City/County “Waste Off”!

WHEN: Thursday, April 7 2 – 5 p.m.
WHERE: Pack Square Park stage – Court Plaza Asheville.

WHAT: This event, similar to the 2021 Food Waste Snapshot Audits of 3 Parks and Recreation facilities, will give us some insights into our current trash, recycling, compost practices at City Hall and County Administrative offices -and provide some friendly City/County competition!

DID YOU KNOW? An estimated 26% of landfilled waste is organics and 18% is recyclable. If we composted and recycled correctly our community could reduce landfilled waste by over 10,000 tons!
