The City of Asheville will hold an informational open house to provide the public with an update on the Asheville in Motion (AIM) Plan and an opportunity to view the results from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 7 at the US Cellular Center Banquet Hall.
The plan will then be presented to the Multimodal Transportation Commission and City Council’s Planning and Economic Development Committee before City Council considers its adoption, after a public hearing expected in March.
Since May 2014, the City of Asheville has been working on a plan to address and prioritize the City’s transportation needs. The public was encouraged to provide input on the issue in spring 2015 during an intensive multi-day charrette. Now, the final draft of the AIM Plan is ready to be presented to the public. The media is invited to cover this informational meeting.
The AIM Plan is an important community-driven step to absorb and enhance growth in a way that balances travel needs and creates true choices among the City’s mobility options. The City’s expressed goal is to create an effective and progressive plan that encourages health-oriented and sustainable transportation, reduces barriers to access transportation, and connects residents and visitors with the places they want and need to go with improved safety, efficiency and accessibility.
