Press Release

From City of Asheville Public Works Department:

ASHEVILLE – The City of Asheville is pleased to announce that Greg Shuler has been selected to fill the position of Director of Public Works.

Shuler has been a part of the city’s Public Works Department since 2008, first as Engineering Services Manager, and then as Streets and Engineering Manager beginning in 2013. Prior to his work at the city, he worked with the NCDOT as a Division Project Manager for Division 13, overseeing Buncombe, Madison, Yancey, Rutherford, Burke, McDowell and Mitchell Counties.

“Greg’s expertise and experience make him the ideal person to step into this key role,” said City Manager Gary Jackson. “Under his leadership, we expect the Public Works Department will continue to find more innovative and cost effective ways to deliver core city services.”

As Streets and Engineering Manager, Shuler led a team that oversaw the completion of many high-profile infrastructure improvements, including bridge replacements at Wild Cherry Road and East Oakview, sidewalk installation at North Louisiana Avenue and Patton Avenue, and the restoration of the Cherokee Road retaining wall.

“This department is made up by such a great group of people,” Shuler said. “It is a privilege to work with such a dedicated team.”

Shuler began his new role as Director of Public Works on Monday, April 28.
