News release from Buncombe County Commissioner Terri Wells:
Commissioner Terri Wells, who was elected in 2020, will seek re-election in 2024. She will be running in the newly drawn Buncombe County Commissioner District 2 which encompasses the largest geographical area of the county. Wells will be hosting Community Conversations across District 2 — including Candler, Leicester, Weaverville, Barnardsville, and Swannanoa — over the next few months in order to meet folks in their communities and listen to them.
“I am proud to be a leader in conserving our natural resources and family farms, improving our broadband infrastructure, and building a stronger future for our next generation,” Wells said. “I am excited to continue to serve our greater Leicester and North Buncombe areas and to broaden my service to our community by gaining Candler and Swannanoa. I will work hard for all of our Buncombe County families.”
In recognition of her leadership on agriculture and the environment, Commissioner Terri Wells has been appointed to both the Agriculture Steering Committee and the Environment Steering Committee for the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners (NCACC). Wells will help shape policy for the NCACC that empowers our state’s 100 counties to work together.
“I have sought out leadership roles like these because they broaden my service and deepen my positive impact as a voice for and representative for the people of Buncombe County,” Wells said. “Last year I was selected to serve on the Connecting Counties Task Force, which focused on an issue that I have championed: Expanding Broadband Access. These new appointments are also perfectly aligned with my roots and my vision. I am excited to do even more to advance agricultural and environmental policies that will benefit the people of Buncombe County and people throughout our state.”
Wells, 52, graduated from Erwin High School and attended both A-B Tech and UNC-Asheville on her way to earning a Bachelor’s Degree from UNC-Chapel Hill. She earned a Master’s Degree in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Colorado Boulder. Wells recently completed the Advanced Leadership Corps training through the UNC School of Government.
Wells and her husband, Glenn Ratcliff, live on their family farm in Sandy Mush. Ratcliff is a Chemistry instructor at A-B Tech Community College.
