Community Foundation of Henderson County awards ABCCM $25,000 for Veterans Restoration Quarters permanent supporting housing

Press release from The Perry N. Rudnick Endowment Fund of the Community Foundation of Henderson County

The Perry N. Rudnick Endowment Fund of the Community Foundation of Henderson County has awarded a $25,000 grant to ABCCM. The purpose of the grant is rehabilitation of 50 rooms to provide veterans with permanent supporting housing through ABCCM’s Veterans Restoration Quarters (VRQ).

“The Perry Rudnick Foundation gift is an important link in providing long-term permanent supportive housing for veterans,” said Rev. Scott Rogers. “We appreciate their thoughtfulness and strategic investment with others that leverages everyone’s funds. This funding collaboration reflects ABCCM’s collaborative efforts with the Charles George VA Medical Center and HUD to help veterans who have very limited choices in the rental marketplace. This gift goes a step further as I heard one veteran say to me, ‘I love that I get to live an apartment with the veterans who have become my family.’  On behalf of ABCCM, we give thanks to God for the Perry Rudnick Foundation.”

Over 240 men reside nightly on the VRQ campus, a former 125 room motel. Veterans are provided housing, meals, case management services, counseling, laundry facilities, a computer lab, a chapel and transportation to VA Medical Center appointments. Every effort is made to provide each veteran with the tools, direction and encouragement needed to arrive at genuine success and full restoration. Eight out of 19 veterans served by this program exit with living wage jobs and permanent housing.

VRQ’s mission is to create a principle-based environment and a comprehensive residential program to address every area of restoration in the lives of homeless veterans. Four developmental stages, called Steps To Success include:

  1. Stabilization, with all the basic necessities provided
  2. Life skills training, with more than 60 volunteer courses available
  3. Educational and professional training certifications that lead to living wage jobs
  4. Reintegration that leads to permanent housing

Funds from the $25,000 grant will be used to bring 50 rooms up to code to provide permanent supportive housing for homeless veterans.
Community Foundation of Henderson County supports charitable programs in the greater Henderson County area. Founded in 1982, the Community Foundation administers over 500 funds with assets of over $100 million.

  1. Jimmy Martin

I am Jimmy Martin. ABCCM. Is truly a lifesaver for many veterans like me. If I were rich. All my donations would go to the veterans quarters. I am now 75 years old and disabled. The quarters made a way for me when I had no way. Scott Rodgers was put in place by the lord. And he truly for fills every corner. I truly suggest if you want to make a difference in the way you donate and know you donations truly go to help veterans. Donate to the veterans quarters. It truly makes your money do what you want it to do. God bless you all.
