Buncombe County Government offices will close on Friday, Nov. 11, in honor of Veterans Day.
Operation Green Light
To show support for Veterans and shine a light on the support services that Buncombe County has to offer, Buncombe County will be shining the green light for Veterans November 7-13 in three locations in downtown Asheville:
- Buncombe County Courthouse
- Health and Human Services Tower- Home to Buncombe County Veterans Services
- Buncombe County Family Justice Center

Buncombe County Courthouse
Buncombe County courts observe the North Carolina Judicial Branch holiday schedule and will be closed Friday, Nov. 11.
Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office
Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office front desk will be closed Friday, Nov. 11, all other operations will be on a normal schedule.
Emergency Services & Public Safety Communications
Administrative offices will be closed Friday, Nov. 11. EMS and 911 maintain normal operations.
Family Justice Center
The Family Justice Center will be closed on Friday, Nov. 11. You can find 24-hour hotline information on our website.
Health & Human Services
BCHHS services will be closed Friday, Nov. 11.
Mountain Mobility
Mountain Mobility will operate on a regular schedule on Friday, Nov. 11.
Parks & Recreation Services
Parks & Recreation administration offices will be closed Friday, Nov. 11. All parks and facilities in the Buncombe County system are open regular hours.
Public Libraries
Please note Evergreen and the NC Cardinal catalog will be down for a scheduled upgrade Nov. 11-13. Buncombe County Libraries will be closed on Friday Nov. 11, in observance of Veterans Day, and they will be open with limited services available on Saturday Nov. 12. The following services will be unavailable:
- Registering new library accounts
- Renewing or updating existing library accounts
- Placing holds on library materials
- Renewing loan periods for items already checked out
- Taking payment for lost items
- Checkouts will be limited to no more than ten (10) items per patron, and patrons must provide their library card number at checkout
All Buncombe County Public Libraries are regularly closed on Mondays. The digital library is always available at buncombecounty.org/library.
Register of Deeds
The Buncombe County Register of Deeds will be closed Friday, Nov. 11. Online services will remain available.
Solid Waste
The Buncombe County Landfill and Transfer Station will operate on a regular schedule Friday, Nov. 11.
Waste Pro
Waste Pro trash and recycling collection services will operate on a regular schedule Friday, Nov. 11.
