From the Carolina Public Press:
The N.C. House approved legislation Thursday that would block charter school employees’ names from being disclosed with their pay, acting on an amendment introduced by Rep. Charles Jeter, R-Huntersville.
The revised bill now goes back to the Senate, which earlier approved a version that requires disclosure of names, salaries and all other personnel information that traditional public schools must reveal.

Jeter says that by disclosing this information, it would create a “hostile work environment.” No wonder counsel for the other side noted it was ‘ridiculous’. The term ‘hostile work environment’ is defined as:
“A hostile work environment is created by a boss or coworker whose actions, communication, or behavior make doing your job impossible. This means that the behavior altered the terms, conditions, and/or reasonable expectations of a comfortable work environment for employees. Additionally, the behavior, actions or communication must be discriminatory in nature.” (SHRM).
Charter schools are supposed to assign compensation based upon merit, not state pay grades. That some teachers are more meritorious than others is part of life. This legislation sounds like it probably is designed to make sure that the friends, cronies and family members of politicians who end of on the school’s payrolls (and there are some right now) can hose the taxpayers with impunity.
