Cradle of Forestry offers new, May the Forest Be With You event

The Cradle of Forestry invites the public to a new event, May the Forest Be with You, Saturday, August 13. This event   celebrates all that is wood- its beauty, variety and products forests provide. A variety of wood workers will be on site demonstrating and displaying their craft.

From 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. visitors can learn about the arts of wood carving, wood burning, fiddle making, wood turning, making pine needle baskets, and lye soap making. They can see a Wood-mizer portable sawmill in action turning logs into lumber and learn the fine points of cutting and properly drying wood. Guided walks of the Forest Festival Trail will be offered at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. interpreting the surrounding forest community. Children’s activities and a craft will be on-going. Around the Biltmore Forest School building visitors can practice tree identification and learn about the properties of different woods.
Admission to the Cradle of Forestry is $5.00 for adults and free for youth under 16 years of age. America the Beautiful, Golden Age and Every Kid in a Park passes are honored. Admission includes the new film, First in Forestry: Carl Alwin Schenck and the Biltmore Forest School, the Forest Discovery Center with 15 hands-on exhibits, scavenger hunts, the Adventure Zone, and historic cabins and antique equipment on two paved interpretive trails.
