José Vázquez of the Office of the City Historian in Havana, Cuba will discuss trends in Cuban tourism in a lecture on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 6:30 p.m. in UNC Asheville’s Sherrill Center, in the Mission Health Mountain View Conference Room. This event is free and open to everyone.
The change in the status of U.S.-Cuban relations has led to new possibilities in cultural exchange and tourism, and Vázquez, faculty emeritus bio-anthropologist at the University of Havana, will discuss his work promoting rural, sustainable tourism in Sancti Spiritus province in central Cuba.
This lecture is sponsored by UNC Asheville’s Department of Modern Languages & Literatures, the university’s Humanities Program and National Endowment for the Humanities professorship, and The Christopher Reynolds Foundation.
