Deadline for Foundation of Henderson County scholarship applications is this Friday

Hendersonville, N.C., Feb. 26, 2013 – The deadline for submitting applications for the Community Foundation of Henderson County’s scholarships for the 2013-2014 academic year is on or before 5 p.m., Friday, March 1.

The Community Foundation is seeking applicants for 63 scholarships. Students may review scholarship descriptions and pick up scholarship applications in the guidance offices of the local public and private high schools, by visiting the Community Foundation website at www.CFHCforever.org or by stopping by the Community Foundation office at 401 N. Main St., Suite 301 in downtown Hendersonville.

Scholarships are open to students pursuing community college, college or university degrees. Scholarships are primarily for students who are graduating or have graduated from high schools within Henderson County, N.C., and include home school and private school graduates. Criteria for the scholarships vary. The scholarships range in award amounts and generally are categorized by financial need, academics, affiliation and field of study or place of study. Interviews are conducted by a volunteer scholarship committee and will begin in April.

In the past 30 years, more than 946 students have received assistance through the scholarship program. By the end of the 2012-2013 school year, the Community Foundation of Henderson County will have paid about $4 million to colleges and universities in the form of scholarship assistance for Henderson County students.

Since 1982, the Community Foundation of Henderson County has offered a variety of ways to impact the community through philanthropic giving. Individuals, families and organizations establish funds at the Community Foundation to carry out their charitable giving now and in the future. This past fiscal year, the Community Foundation distributed more than $2.3 million to many nonprofit organizations and scholarship seekers in the Henderson County area and beyond. With assets of more than $69.1 million, the Community Foundation manages more than 490 funds, each with its own unique purpose which is usually specified by a donor. Most are permanent funds called endowments, which provide philanthropic support forever.
