From a press release:
Diana Wortham Theatre holds annual raffle to benefit local children through its Youth Education Scholarships (YES) April 7 & 8
Diana Wortham Theatre is delighted to announce its annual raffle benefiting the Youth Education Scholarship (Y.E.S.) Fund, which enables local disadvantaged students to attend performing arts events at Diana Wortham Theatre, on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 7 and 8, 2015. The raffle is held in conjunction with the performances each evening, but the general public is encouraged to purchase raffle tickets for the various raffle packages each day during the box office’s regular hours of 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. All proceeds raised by the raffle benefit the theatre’s Y.E.S. Fund, which creates opportunities for children to experience the arts by providing scholarships for underprivileged students to attend Matinee Series performances.
Raffle tickets may be purchased for $5 (or 5 for $20) with cash or check for a chance to win prize packages from regional businesses and artists such as art and craft gallery items, restaurant gift certificates, homemade goods, tickets for area performing arts venues and attractions, retail and services, outdoor activities, lodging and more. Each day’s list of prize packages will be made available that day at the box office and on Diana Wortham Theatre’s website; raffle tickets may be purchased during the day at the box office and applied to the chosen raffle packages. Raffle package tables will be set up by 7:00 p.m. each evening prior to the Pilobolus performances, and patrons attending the performances may purchase raffle tickets those evenings. Each night’s winners will be posted in the lobby at the end of the performance. Winners can take their prize home that night, or pick it up at a later time. Winners do not have to be present to claim their prizes.
Each season, 9,000 children experience an event at the Diana Wortham Theatre through the theatre’s Matinee Series for Students and Families. For many, it is their first visit to a theatre. The Matinee Series provides professional, curriculum-related shows designed to educate and entertain. Donors to the theatre’s Y.E.S. Fund make it possible for all children in Western North Carolina to learn through the arts.
The entrance for the Diana Wortham Theatre at Pack Place is marked by the location of the theatre’s marquee between 12 and 14 Biltmore Avenue. Patrons enter the theatre through the breezeway between Marble Slab Creamery and White Duck Taco and into a large interior courtyard with multiple glass doors to the theatre’s main lobby and box office. The intimate theatre seats just over 500 and boasts exceptional acoustics and sightlines, making it the premier performance space in Western North Carolina. The Mainstage Series is supported by a grant from the North Carolina Arts Council, a state agency. The Mainstage Series 2014/2015 Season Sponsors are the Asheville Scene, Blue Moon Water, Creative Energy, Everyday Gourmet, Laurey’s Catering and Gourmet-to-go, the North Carolina Arts Council and the Renaissance Asheville Hotel. To obtain more information on the Mainstage Series or to purchase tickets, call the theatre’s box office at (828) 257-4530 or visit www.dwtheatre.com.
