Dog Day Afternoon Festival, Sept. 28

From a press release:

Dog Day Afternoon Festival, Sept. 28

On Sunday, September 28th Carrier Park will be home to Asheville’s only outdoor festival created for dogs to benefit dogs. The 3rd annual Mix 96.5 Dog Day Afternoon festival will take place at the East Green of Carrier Park in West Asheville from 1 to 5 p.m. to celebrate all things canine and support local dog rescue organizations.

The Asheville Humane Society and Brother Wolf Animal Rescue will be in attendance with large adoption areas showcasing dogs ready for adoption in hopes of matching these would-be pets with a loving foster or forever home.

This family and dog-friendly FREE event will draw an estimated 2,000 to 2,500 attendees and features a dog-friendly 1.2 mile fun run around Carrier Park, dog contests including a wiener dog race, “Best Mutt”, “Best Lap Dog Over 50lbs” and the Fastest Dog in Asheville Competition.

Advance registration for doggie contests and the fun run is encouraged but not required. Walk-up entries will be welcome. Participation in the fun run is $10 per person and entry to the doggie contests is $5 per contest per dog. Proceeds from all activities benefit the Asheville Humane Society and Brother Wolf Animal Rescue. Registration is now open at www.Mix965Asheville.com.

In addition to the adoption areas and dog contests, Dog Day Afternoon will be hosted by Mix 96.5’s Tammy & Dex and will include discounted microchipping services from Animal Hospital South, a dog and owner photo booth from the Asheville Regional Airport, mobile “Pretty Pooch” grooming station, climbing wall, live music from the 96.5 House Band, a kids’ area complete with bounce houses and activities from the YMCA, and plenty of local businesses featuring pet-centered goods and services.

Craft beer from Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. and Oskar Blues Brewery will be available for purchase with proceeds benefiting Asheville Humane Society and Brother Wolf Animal Rescue. Attendees can enjoy delicious eats from Avery’s Hot Dogs, BoJangles, Latino Heat and sweet treats from The Hop.
