Doggett Mountain Challenge cycle event, July 12

From a press release:

Doggett Mountain Challenge cycle event, July 12

Hundreds of cyclists from throughout the Southeast will gather again on July 12, 2014 for the ninth annual Hot Doggett rides through Madison County. Organized by the Rotary of Madison County, ride proceeds benefit numerous programs for local children.

Starting at Mars Hill University, the Doggett Mountain Challenge riders will wind their 100-mile way over the mountain to Hot Springs to loop back over Devil’s Fork and Sam’s Gap to Mars Hill. The Devils Fork Metric has 64 miles of country roads through the valleys of Laurel before the climbs of Devil’s Fork and Sam’s Gap. The new “Big Laurel Grind” provides a third option, a 38 mile course for riders wanting challenging climbs in a shorter distance. Timing chips are being used for the first time this year for all three rides.

Providing an important boost to area tourism, the Hot Doggett 100’s Presenting Sponsors are Hard Rock Café and EOI Apparel. Gold Sponsors are Madison Health and Rehabilitation, Mission Health, Madison County Tourism and “Triple P” Positive Parenting Programs. Silver Sponsors are the cycling stores Hearn’s Cycling and Fitness, Motion Makers Bicycle Shop and Youngblood Bicycles. Asheville Savings Bank, Mars Hill University, Beverly-Hanks and Associates REALTORS, Mary Stewart and Madison Funeral Home are also Silver Sponsors.

Participants have access to numerous well-stocked rest stops along the routes as well as a full post ride meal (with vegetarian and vegan options) at the finish.  SAG (supply and gear) drivers and ham operators will be out on the course throughout the day to assist in case of an emergency.

Registered riders receive a commemorative t-shirt along with a great goodie bag filled with useful items, have access to low cost accommodations at Mars Hill University, and showers. On-line registration is available at www.Active.com or onsite from 3 to 6 pm on Friday, July 11, or starting at 6 am on Saturday July 12. For more information visit:  www.HotDoggett100.org.
