Jennie Eblen, vice president at Eblen Short Stop Stores, Inc., has been elected to the statewide Board of Directors of the North Carolina Center for Nonprofits.
Eblen currently serves on the boards of the N.C. Partnership for Children, United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County, Care Partners Foundation, and the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina, where she is active in the giving circle, Women for Women. She is board chair of Smart Start Buncombe County. Eblen was recently awarded Leadership Asheville’s 2014 Community Trustee Award.
She has been a longtime volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters and works with Children First/CIS to reduce the impact and incidence of poverty for children and families. Eblen is on the board development committee of Girl Scouts Peaks to Piedmont and is an advocacy instructor for Western NC Nonprofit Pathways.
Eblen earned an MA in anthropology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and a BA in anthropology at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, FL. She is a published author and a fourth-generation native of Asheville.
