Electrify Asheville-Buncombe begins home energy navigator program

Press release from Let’s Go Electric:

Electrify Asheville-Buncombe is now offering a Home Energy Navigator, a new service designed to support local homeowners as they transition to cleaner, more energy-efficient homes. Whether you’re interested in solar energy, heat pumps, induction cooking, or other home electrification options, the Home Energy Navigator program offers free, personalized consultations to help you make informed decisions for your property.

The program connects homeowners with specialized Electrify Asheville-Buncombe Navigators who will guide them through the process of electrifying their homes. Each free consultation begins with a 30-minute virtual meeting in which Navigators assess the homeowner’s needs and goals, review financial incentives, and offer a preliminary evaluation of the home’s suitability for electrification.

“We understand that home electrification can seem like a daunting task,” said Sophie Mullinax, an Electrify Asheville-Buncombe program leader. “Our goal with the Home Energy Navigator Program is to make it simpler for local homeowners to understand their options, identify what fits within their budget, and determine the right next steps. A Navigator is here to help every step of the way.”

The initial consultation will:

  • Evaluate current status and determine where energy savings are possible
  • Prioritize needs and upgrades with highest energy savings
  • Provide preliminary evaluation to show costs, incentives, energy savings, and financing options
  • Connect with contractors and obtain proposals

Following this initial assessment, the Navigator will generate a preliminary report that outlines estimated costs, rebates and energy savings. Homeowners will also receive an estimate of their payback time and return on investment through the integration of the RMI Green Upgrade Calculator.

While the Navigator does not provide final proposals, the service helps homeowners better understand their options and ensures local contractors receive information about customers that are likely to move forward with a project. This helps reduce costs for contractors and provides them with more qualified, ready-to-commit customers.

“We’re proud to offer this service to both homeowners and contractors,” said Emily Hurd of Electrify Asheville-Buncombe. “For homeowners, it’s a one-stop resource for understanding home electrification, available incentives, and what’s possible for their specific home. For contractors, it’s an opportunity to work with well-informed, pre-qualified leads that are more likely to proceed with their electrification projects.”

The Home Energy Navigator Program also provides ongoing support for homeowners by helping them navigate the various incentives, rebates, and financing options available for electrification projects. It is the latest offering from a program that began last year to enable Asheville and Buncombe County residents to begin transitioning to clean energy options that benefit their households and reduce costs.

Homeowners can easily book their virtual consultation beginning Feb. 3 through the website, the direct scheduling link, or reach out to hello@electrifyabc.com for assistance with scheduling.

To complement the 24/7 online availability of electrification information and access to contractors, an array of Electrify Asheville-Buncombe community events and engagement activities is planned to enhance awareness at the city, county and neighborhood level.
