Press release

Lights On Afterschool is a national advocacy day celebrating the importance of afterschool programs across the nation. Today, October 22nd is officially Lights on Afterschool day! This entire week, 21st Century Community Learning Center afterschool programs across North Carolina will be hosting events to increase awareness of their services.

Eliada is proud to be a recipient of a 21st Community Learning Center grant from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. This grant allows us to serve 90 Kindergarten through 4th graders in Emma Elementary, Leicester Elementary, and Woodfin Elementary. Eliada works closely with each school’s administration and teaching staff, along with the Buncombe County Curriculum Director, to design a fun afterschool curriculum that supports and enriches the lessons being taught during the school day.

To celebrate Lights On Afterschool at Eliada, all of our 21st Century students and their families are coming to the Corn Maze on October 24th! 21st Century staff will be there to host families with special literacy focused activities. And in honor of National Bullying Prevention Month, each family will go home with a book about Spookley the Square Pumpkin. Families that attend the Corn Maze will get to walk through the Spookley Storybook trail in the corn field, ready about Spookley’s adventures, and learn how being different is cool!

Support our 21st Century program and the students we serve by visiting the Corn Maze this Saturday, October 24th, between 2-6pm! You will be able to sign a Lights On Afterschool petition showing your support for afterschool programs in our community!
