SAN ANTONIO, TX –Monday at the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) 2014 National Leadership Conference in San Antonio, TX the FCCLA Chapter from Clyde A. Erwin High School in Asheville, NC, received the first place $1,500 cash prize for their execution of the Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility’s IKnowEverything teen driver safety program and for their strategic communication to peers instilling smarter driving habits.
All FCCLA chapters that hosted the IKnowEverything program were asked to submit reflective evaluations and project recaps in order to best determine which chapters were most successful. Clyde A. Erwin High School came in first place and was awarded the $1,500 grand prize. The winners were chosen based on a rubric that graded each participating FCCLA chapter on outcomes, creativity and reach to their peers on the importance of the IKnowEverything message. The second and third place winning FCCLA chapters were Bangor Middle/High School in Bangor, WI and Upton High School in Upton, WY for second and third place respectively.

Erwin High School Chapter of FCCLA for hosting the award-winning IKnowEverything school assembly, and showcasing their commitment to achieving positive results,” said Sandy Spavone, Executive Director of FCCLA. “Similarly, we are delighted to have had the opportunity to partner with the Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility and their IKnowEverything campaign to highlight the importance of safe driving habits among teens. Together, we can help make our roads safer and protect the lives and the futures of the youth we seek to serve.”
IKnowEverything is an integrated teen driver safety program that highlights the issues of drunk driving and distracted driving, and reiterates that parents have the most influence on their teen’s driving behaviors. The program also reinforces that teens already “know everything” about how to be a safe driver and covers critical topics including drinking alcohol underage and driving, distracted driving, late night driving, speeding, number of passengers, and license restrictions. The results of this interactive, game-show style assembly will help the Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility bring awareness to the gaps in new teen driver’s knowledge and how the community can be best addressed.
