Evergreen Community Charter School named to Expeditionary Learning’s top 17 “mentor schools”

The NC Honor School of Excellence Added as one of 17 Outstanding Schools for Top School Performance & Deeper Learning Practices

Asheville, NC – June 24, 2013 – Expeditionary Learning, the network of schools, teachers and students dedicated to student success through academic achievement, character development, and high quality work, added Evergreen Community Charter School to its roster of 17 exemplary schools known within their network as ‘Mentor Schools.’ Each one of these exceptional schools has shown evidence of strong, consistent, and actively contributing leadership, as well as solid student performance as measured by state assessment and/or nationally normed assessments.

Evergreen was chosen for its multiple awards and achievements including: being named NC’s Honor School of Excellence for three consecutive years (2010-11, 2011-12, and 2012-13) – only 8% of the schools in North Carolina earned this distinction; meeting 17 out of 17 Adequate Yearly Progress goals in the 2009-10 school year; and being named one of two schools in North Carolina and 78 nationwide to be named a 2012 Green Ribbon School by the U.S, Department of Education. Expeditionary Learning also recognizes Evergreen as a school that truly prepares students for the 21st century. This criteria includes preparation for college, jobs and a lifetime of learning and engaged citizenship. Expeditionary Learning sets a high bar for all of its schools – students must master academic content, think critically to solve complex problems, communicate effectively, collaborate, and take ownership of their own learning.
