Former Assistant District Attorney launches independent law firm

Effective Thursday, Jan. 1, former Assistant District Attorney J. Thomas Amburgey opened his new law firm, Amburgey Law. Thomas served the citizens of Buncombe County for over seven years as an Assistant District Attorney and was responsible for handling thousands of criminal cases and amassed over 70 jury trials. These trials included the homicide trials of Rodney Robinson, David Penley, Harrold Sammons, Devon Gales, and Clayton Jordan. These defendants account for two thirds of all the homicide cases in tried in Buncombe County since 2011.

In private practice, Thomas will focus his talents on representing clients facing criminal charges in Buncombe County and the surrounding counties. Amburgey Law is located in Asheville at 40 Clayton Street.
