The Office of Governor Pat McCrory announced the following appointments today:
North Carolina Parks and Recreation Authority
Jason Kay (Mecklenburg County) – Kay is a senior assistant attorney for the city of Charlotte. He received a B.S. from Indiana University and a master’s and juris doctorate from UNC-Chapel Hill. Kay will serve as chairman of the board and will hold a seat designated for someone who is knowledgeable about parks and recreation issues or has expertise in finance.
William Lewis (New Hanover County) – Lewis is the North Carolina Parks and Recreation Association president. Previously, he was the New Hanover County parks department director. He received a B.S. in parks and recreation administration from North Carolina State University. Lewis will hold the seat designated for someone knowledgeable about parks and recreation issues or has expertise in finance.
Ann Babcock (Buncombe County) – Babcock is retired from the real estate firm Beverly-Hanks & Associates. She has recently become a green certified ECO consultant because of her interest in “green building.” She attended UNC-Chapel Hill. Babcock will hold the seat designated for someone knowledgeable about parks and recreation issues or who has expertise in finance.
The Parks and Recreation Authority receives private and public donations, appropriations, grants and revenues for the Parks and Recreation Trust Fund. Members work to allocate funds for land acquisitions, repairs and improvements. Each term length is three years.
