Greg Cheatham announces candidacy for Buncombe County Board of Education

BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. – Longtime Buncombe County educator Greg Cheatham is excited to announce his
candidacy for Buncombe County Board of Education for the upcoming 2024 election.
Greg Cheatham, who lives in Black Mountain with his wife Katie and their two dogs, is well known across the
Buncombe County Schools community. Greg Cheatham spent 17 years teaching at Fairview Elementary School,
serving as a second, third, and fifth grade classroom teacher, as well as a physical education instructor. Across
his successful public school career, he taught in both the Reynolds and Enka districts.
Greg Cheatham was chosen as Teacher of the Year three times by his peers and provided leadership on
numerous school committees, including four years as the Chairperson of the School Improvement Team. He
also coached the Fairview Flyers Unicycle Team and the Girls on the Run Team. Cheatham is also well known
for creating the “Cooking with Coach” show to promote healthy cooking and eating to the students of Fairview
Elementary School.
Greg Cheatham, who retired from teaching in 2023, has recently begun a second career in public service with
the Asheville Fire Department. Even after his retirement from public education, Greg remains actively engaged
as a volunteer and currently serves as president of the Fairview Dads Club.
“As a Board of Education member, I will work diligently to represent the entire community and build positive,
productive relationships between parents and the school system,” said Cheatham. “Most importantly, I will
make policy decisions that are research-based, fair, and always student-centered.
Cheatham will actively share more campaign information online and host meet-and-greet events for voter
engagement.

    Hey neighbors! 🏞️ Just read about Greg Cheatham throwing his hat in the ring for the Buncombe County Board of Education. 🎩📚 He’s been a familiar face around here, especially with his 17 years at Fairview Elementary. Remember his “Cooking with Coach” show? My kids loved it! 🥗👨‍🍳 Plus, his work with the Fairview Flyers Unicycle Team always brought a smile to my face. 🚴‍♂️
