Hall Fletcher Elementary has a year-round garden science program that uses field trips, the school’s community garden and greenhouse and cooking lessons to supplement classrooms lessons covering topics such as eco-systems, energy transfer, nutrition and wellness. Garden specialist Rachel Lubitz tells Xpress that the school is excited to announce the second year of the “Star Chef Junior” cooking competitions, to be held in February.
“Classes that studied nutrition, transfers of heat and cooking on a budget with local garden ingredients [will] create their very own recipes to compete for the top prize.” Lubitz said. “There will be judges, 1st-4th place winners with prizes and more.”
