Henderson County providers to start Group 4 COVID vaccinations March 17

Press release from the Henderson County Department of Public Health:

Henderson County COVID-19 vaccine providers will move to Group 4 eligibility alongside the state on March 17, starting with vaccinations for individuals with high-risk medical conditions, experiencing homelessness or incarcerated.

Local providers have been scheduling appointments for frontline essential workers in Group 3 while continuing to prioritize previous eligible groups. As more seniors have been able to receive vaccination appointments, providers are comfortable signaling the official shift to Groups 3 and 4.

On Thursday, Gov. Roy Cooper announced anyone between the ages of 16 and 64 with any of the 18 medical conditions outlined by the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services will be eligible for the vaccine on Wednesday, March 17. Homeless and incarcerated individuals who have not already been vaccinated are also eligible. A full list of medical conditions is available at www.YourSpotYourShot.nc.gov

When the Governor announced providers could begin vaccinating essential workers eligible under Group 3 on March 3, Henderson County providers opted to pause opening to the wider Group 3 to prioritize seniors 65 and older.

AdventHealth Hendersonville, Blue Ridge Health and Pardee UNC Health Care set aside a portion of their vaccine allotments to help vaccinate seniors 65 and older on the Henderson County Department of Public Health’s waitlist. This assistance has allowed the Health Department to make it through roughly two-thirds of its waitlist.

While other providers may begin vaccinating Groups 3 and 4, the Henderson County Department of Public Health waitlist will remain open only to Groups 1 and 2 at this time. For a list of other vaccine providers, please use the NCDHHS Find A Vaccine Location tool at www.myspot.nc.gov.
