From City of Hendersonville:
Hendersonville Tree Board Volunteers To Install Three Pollinator Garden Demonstration Beds
(HENDERSONVILLE, NC, April 4, 2016) – On Saturday, April 23, volunteers with Hendersonville Tree Board will install three 4’x8’ raised-bed plots along Bearcat Loop Parkway and plant them with a variety of pollinator-friendly plants. In addition, the City will install identification placards for the trees that were planted along the roadway last year. From the entrance at U.S. 64 W. the pollinator beds will enhance more than 70 native and pollinator-friendly trees that were planted along the driveway to Hendersonville Elementary School and Hendersonville Middle School.
Hendersonville became a Bee City USA in 2015, and the demonstration pollinator beds will serve as a friendly place for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators — providing nectar, pollen, and host plants needed for their reproduction. Additionally, the beds show residents the sorts of plants that can be planted to attract and support pollinator species.
The Tree Board is also working with Four Seasons Rotary Club to plan this year’s Arbor Day celebration, scheduled for Friday, May 6, at 12:30 p.m. The Arbor Day event will be held at Bruce Drysdale Elementary School on N. Main Street in downtown Hendersonville. The community is invited.
Pollinator Week is scheduled for June 20-26 in Henderson and Buncombe Counties. A week-long agenda of educational and fun events about pollinator-friendly plants and species is being planned. More information will be available in coming weeks.
Hendersonville Tree Board is commissioned to study, investigate, counsel, develop and/or update and administer a written plan for the care, preservation, pruning, planting, replanting, removal, or disposition of trees and shrubs in parks, along streets and in other public areas. The Tree Board educates the public as to the economic and aesthetic benefits of trees and shrubs to Hendersonville and its citizens. The board is composed of residents and landowners in the City of Hendersonville. Members are appointed by Hendersonville City Council.
