Press release from Henderson County Tourism Development Authority:
Hendersonville, NC—Garden Jubilee, one of the largest gardening shows in Western North Carolina, will be held Saturday, May 26 and Sunday, May 27 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during Memorial Day weekend. More than 265 plant and craft vendors will line Main Street from Sixth Avenue all the way down to Caswell Street, transforming the historic downtown area into an eight-block garden wonderland. Celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, Garden Jubilee is expected to draw 200,000 visitors. It was recently named as one of the Southeast Tourism Society’s “Top 20 Events in the Southeast” for May 2018.
Garden Jubilee, which is sponsored by the Henderson County Tourism Development Authority (TDA), has grown into a prestigious lawn and garden show. Beth Carden, executive director of the TDA, says the event draws repeat visitors and vendors alike. “Over the years this event has become a premier garden-themed event for local and regional visitors, as well as for vendors from across the country. With its spectacular array of lawn and garden items for sale, it’s very attractive to visitors. As a strong economic driver, Garden Jubilee positively impacts various businesses throughout Henderson County over the holiday weekend.”
During the two-day event, local and regional nurseries will be selling thousands of annuals, perennials, vegetables, herbs and hard-to-find plants. Crafters will offer distinctive garden art, and there will be handmade lawn furniture, jewelry, garden tools, planters, windchimes, birdhouses, soaps and pottery. Visitors can also learn the latest techniques and tips from gardening experts located throughout the festival.
The Lowe’s Expo will be located at the Visitor Center at 201 South Main Street. It will feature lawn and garden workshops, a variety of plants for sale, beautiful patio displays, exhibits on how to build block walls and patios using pavers, outdoor furniture, grills and lawn equipment. National product representatives from Oldcastle, Stay Green, Scotts, Miracle-Gro, Ortho, Roundup, Sevin, Spectracide, Cutter, Pennington Lawn & Garden Products and Hot Shot will be available in their tents giving out free samples, helpful advice and tips. Visitors can bring the reps a sample from their yard for assistance from these experts on solving specific issues.
Bill Slack, the popular landscape and gardening specialist with Southern Living magazine, will be making his 16th appearance at Garden Jubilee. He is a registered landscape architect, author and lecturer and appears on many national radio and television programs. Slack served on the University of Georgia faculty for 13 years and has over 25 years of design experience.
