I-26 overnight closures this week

Press release from North Carolina Dept of Transportation:

Contractors for the N.C. Department of Transportation have scheduled overnight closures in the Interstate 26 work zone on two nights this week and are telling motorists to follow detours around the work each night.

One Wednesday night operation will result in a new traffic pattern for westbound drivers in Henderson County starting Thursday morning.

Tuesday Night

I-26 East will close no earlier than 8 p.m. from Brevard Road (Exit 33) to Airport Road (Exit 44) in Buncombe County. Crews from Fluor-United JV will utilize the safe conditions to shift the I-26 East onramp to new concrete and begin asphalt repairs in this 11-mile stretch.

This operation will begin with rolling roadblocks on I-40 East and I-240 West/I-26 East. The detour will direct traffic to Brevard Road (N.C. 191) then Long Shoals Road.

Wednesday Night

I-26 West will close no earlier than 8 p.m. for the entire length of the construction — from U.S. 64 (Exit 49) in Henderson County to I-40 (Exit 31) for multiple operations under safe conditions.

Crews from Archer-Wright JV will conduct a significant traffic shift in Henderson County by moving westbound traffic west of Clear Creek Road onto the new concrete surface in a temporary pattern, and shift it to the permanent pattern just west of the U.S. 25 (Exit 44) onramp.

In Buncombe County, Fluor-United crews will utilize the safe conditions to upgrade asphalt conditions in several sections from Airport Road (Exit 40) to Brevard Road (Exit 33).
The detour will direct westbound traffic to U.S. 64 West into Hendersonville, then U.S. 25 North (Asheville Highway) into Buncombe County and all the way up the same road to the interchange with I-40.

Traffic lights will remain green longer along the detour routes to accommodate additional interstate traffic.
