In 2016, the N.C. General Assembly proclaimed Jackson County as the state’s “Premier Fly Fishing Destination.” The WNC Fly Fishing Trail features 15 hot fishing spots that run from the northern end of the county to the southern end of the county along the Tuckaseigee River. Jackson County is stocked with more trout than any other county in the state.
The chamber will partner with the Tuckaseigee Chapter of Trout Unlimited and American Rivers to organize the inaugural Scott’s Creek Cleanup in the Fall of 2017. Festival goers can sign up to volunteer.
“We encourage everyone to come spend a great afternoon in beautiful Sylva, N.C.,” said Jackson County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Julie Hooper Spiro. “We want to showcase our incredible fishing opportunities, and share all of the craft beer, music, and food we are blessed to have right here in western North Carolina.”
Spiro added, “This is a great stewardship opportunity to highlight the importance of our waterways and encourage volunteers to help us clean up Scotts Creek, a tributary of the Tuckaseigee River.”
