Press release from City of Asheville:

The City of Asheville will resume their regular schedule for brush collection services starting Monday, March 31, including bagged leaves and properly contained brush trimmings. Residents are reminded that storm debris and vegetative brush that do not meet city collection guidelines will not be collected through the City’s brush collection service. Storm debris removal contractors will continue to collect storm debris until the final pass is complete.

  • Brush trimmings must not be placed on storm drains or near utility structures, including guy wires, meter boxes, or underneath low-hanging utility lines.

  • Brush piles should be placed at least 5 feet from structures such as fences, mailboxes, and utility poles.

  • Brush may be placed in reusable containers marked “brush” or “leaves”, not exceeding 50 pounds and free of accumulated rainwater.

  • Biodegradable paper yard waste bags containing brush or leaves must not exceed 25 pounds.

  • No tree trunks, stumps, or limbs larger than six inches in diameter, longer than four feet, or weighing more than 50 pounds will be collected by the city.

  • Thorny vegetation must be trimmed to lengths of two feet or less and placed in a separate pile from other tree and shrubbery trimmings.

Storm debris collection still available through Private Property Debris Removal Program

Eligible storm debris that was not collected through the ROW storm debris collection can still be removed through the Private Property Debris Removal (PPDR) program. This program is designed to assist residents with the removal of storm-related debris that exceeds standard collection limits. The deadline to apply is April 15, 2025.
