From Jasmine Beach-Ferrara’s team
Press release
Jasmine Beach-Ferrara filed as a candidate this morning for the District 1 seat on Buncombe County Commission. Beach-Ferrara is a Democrat and the founding Executive Director of the Campaign for Southern Equality, an Asheville-based non-profit that promotes LGBT rights throughout the South.
“As a working mom, I get it – Buncombe County families are feeling the pressure of soaring housing costs and state budget cuts to schools. Our community deserves excellent schools, healthy neighborhoods and jobs that pay a living wage. I’m running to be a voice on County Commission for kids and families – in all the forms they take – and to ensure that we all have the opportunity for a better life. Our local government needs fresh perspectives and we need a County Commission that better reflects our community,” says Beach-Ferrara.
Jasmine grew up in Chapel Hill raised by her mom, a public health nurse. Jasmine and her wife, Meghann Burke, live in the East End neighborhood of Asheville with their one-year-old son.
Beach-Ferrara is a first time candidate for elected office. The primary election will take place on March 15, 2016.
