Last week, 10th District Democratic candidate Patsy Keever traded statements with her Republican opponent, incumbent Patrick McHenry, over Social Security and Medicare.

Patsy Keever Rallies with Seniors
Asheville—Rep. Patsy Keever released the following statement this morning regarding the rally she led with seniors in front of the Romney/Ryan local campaign office on Friday.
“We gathered Friday to let people know that when Governor Romney chose Congressman Ryan to be his running mate, he chose to run with the far right. We gathered to let people know that Congressman Patrick McHenry has been a loyal Ryan servant in the house, and we gathered to say that seniors in the 10th district will not stand for the Ryan/McHenry plan to end Medicare as we know it.
“I do not want growing old in this country to once again mean growing poor. I do not want seniors in the 10th district to have to pay over $6,000 a year more for their healthcare because their Congressperson is too beholden to the extreme members of his party to stand up for the people of his district. I want to be elected so that I can put the people of this congressional district first.”
Rep. Keever then released the second policy statement that clearly differentiates her from her opponent.
Policy Difference #2
Patrick McHenry wants to end Medicare as we know it and replace it with a voucher system that could cost seniors an additional $6000 a year for their health care. I want to keep our promise to our seniors and protect the current Medicare benefits that they have earned by paying into the program throughout their lifetimes. If you think Medicare should be a voucher program, vote for Congressman McHenry. If you want to protect the benefits our seniors have earned, vote for me.
Rep. Patsy Keever (NC-115) is the Democratic nominee for the U.S. House of Representatives in North Carolina’s 10th Congressional District. Keever taught in the public schools for more than 25 years and served on the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners for 12 years. In 2010, Keever was elected to the North Carolina House of Representatives from NC District 115.
