Lecture on energy use in buildings April 30 at A-B Tech

Local building scientist Chris Mathis will present a free lecture on the importance
of building efficiency and the effect of the built environment on energy
consumption at 7 p.m. April 30 in Ferguson Auditorium on A-B Tech’s Asheville
campus.

According to Mathis, buildings use 40 percent of the nation’s energy. Using
photographs from around the world, Mathis will provide a clear context for the
challenges on the road to sustainability. As a beekeeper, he will also explore
building science lessons to be learned from the honeybee and their efficient
structures.

The event is sponsored by A-B Tech student organizations GreenPower,
students promoting sustainable awareness, and Phi Theta Kappa, the college
honor society. Members will be accepting donations for their organizations.
