Students from Asheville Performing Arts Academy in Asheville and MusicWorks Studio of Performing Arts in Clyde won a Freddie G Award for Excellence in Ensemble Work at the 2014 Junior Theater Festival happening January 17, 18 and 19 at the Cobb Galleria Centre in Atlanta, GA.

The 28 students from Asheville Performing Arts presented selections from Disney’s Aladdin KIDS for Jacob Brent (appeared in Broadway, London and DVD productions of Cats and Starlight Express, directed premiere of Avenue Q School Edition); Holly Stanfield, who has directed a number of national student premieres (Aida School Edition, Thoroughly Modern Millie School Edition and Rent School Edition); and director and choreographer Kikau Alvaro who works with the Children’s Musical Theater of San Jose.

The 21 students from MusicWorks Studio of Performing Arts presented selections from Disney’s The Little Mermaid JR. for music director Kristen Singer and Tim Federle (performer and author Tim Federle (The Little Mermaid, Five, Six, Seven, Nate!).

Said Singer and Federle, “This cast was 100% committed and exhibited great support of one another onstage.”

Sarah Plaut from Asheville Performing Arts Academy and Madison Sugg, Marina Battenfeld and Javan Delozier from MusicWorks Studio of Performing Arts were four of 141 students who made it to the final call-back for future Broadway Junior shoots for “how-to” choreography videos for soon-to-be released Broadway Junior musicals. The shoots will be taped in New York City this summer. These videos will be used in tens of thousands of schools across the country and internationally.
