Press release
From the Charles George VA Medical Center
Eligible Veterans can get flu shots now through Oct. 19
CHARLES GEORGE VA MEDICAL CENTER, Asheville, N.C. – Flu season is coming so the Charles George VA Medical Center (CGVAMC) is reminding eligible Veterans that they can get a flu shot at the Medical Center and in a number of locations in Western North Carolina.
The VA Medical Center, 1100 Tunnel Rd., Asheville, has a walk-in clinic located in the Atrium basement level (next to the Laboratory) that is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, until Oct. 19. It will be closed on Oct. 8 which is Columbus Day, a Federal holiday.
Veterans do not have to make an appointment or change a scheduled appointment at the Medical Center or Outpatient clinic to get a vaccine. They may get their flu vaccine during a regularly scheduled appointment, or at the walk-in clinic in the Medical Center.
Many Veterans cannot make it to the Medical Center so the CGVAMC Rural Health team will be traveling to a number of communities around Western North Carolina to administer flu vaccines. These clinics will provide access to the flu vaccine and other important immunizations from mid-October to November.
Veterans who have not enrolled for VA health care may talk to a representative from
Rural Health who will be available at every event to help Veterans begin the enrollment process and answer questions about eligibility. Veterans who have not enrolled should bring a copy of their DD214. All Veterans are encouraged to enroll though eligibility is based on a number of different factors.Veterans who have questions, or would like to reserve a vaccine during a Rural Health event in their area should call the Rural Health Office at 828-298-7911, ext. 4337.
