MADE competition coming this fall

Press release from the City of Morganton:

The Historic Morganton Festival, Inc. is excited to announce that the Morganton Arts Design and Engineering (MADE) Competition will move forward with a Fall 2021 competition. MADE is one of the most successful collaborations between education and industry partners and it gives Burke County students a chance to experience STEAM-based activities that build skills relevant to many of the area industries. Teams interested in competing can now submit entry forms for the 4th MADE Competition- the “Rescue Robot Challenge”.

After two successful fall team competitions and one spring individual competition, the Historic Morganton Festival, Inc. is looking forward to bringing the competition back to downtown Morganton during the final weekend of the Morganton Festival Weekends: Tradition Upheld, Safely Downscaled on September 10 and 11, 2021. The Rescue Robot Challenge will feature built, remotely controlled machines capable of retrieving items that need to be “rescued” and returned to a safety area within an allocated timeframe. The bots must maneuver over a test rig consisting of a series of connected platforms with different “terrain” and obstacles that must be overcome in order to retrieve the items of interest.

The competition is open to Burke County Middle and High Schools with spots also available for regional schools as well. Prize packages for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams in both middle and high school divisions will be awarded including over $3,000 going directly to technology education.
