Man charged in 2023 late-night double homicide

Press release from Asheville Police: 

Asheville, NC (February 15th, 2024): Asheville Police Department Detectives charged Tristin Marquese Maewether with 1st Degree Murder, 1st Degree Kidnapping, and Robbery w/ a Dangerous Weapon for his role in the shooting death of Chase Christian Vanleeuwen.

Maewether, who was already in the custody of the N.C. Department of Corrections for a parole violation, was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility where he was initially held under NO BOND (ineligible to be released) due to the Pretrial Integrity Act. The release status of NO BOND has been upheld by Judge Young.
